Our art and  law trip to Belgium and The Netherlands begins in Brussels, the vibrant heart of the European Union. The city's elegant boulevards and ornate buildings set the tone for an immersive experience in law and diplomacy. We walk through the European Quarter, where glass-fronted institutions like the European Parliament and European Commission rise beside historic facades—symbolizing the ongoing dialogue between past and present. Here, students gain firsthand insight into the legislative processes that shape the continent, attending briefings and engaging with legal professionals who navigate the complexities of EU law and international policy daily.
Outside the institutions, Brussels charms us with its cultural flair—from the grandeur of the Grand Place to the artistic legacy of Magritte and Hergé. Over warm waffles and winding cobblestone streets, we reflect on the role of law in preserving cultural identity and promoting European unity.
Next, we travel north to The Hague, often called the City of Peace and Justice. This is where law and morality converge on the global stage. The serene, tree-lined streets lead us to the Peace Palace, home of the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Inside, the atmosphere is both solemn and inspiring, as students witness the process of resolving disputes between nations through dialogue and jurisprudence. We also visit the International Criminal Court (ICC), where law seeks justice for humanity's gravest crimes. These institutions challenge us to consider the weight of international responsibility and the power of law to shape a better world.
Yet The Hague is more than just a seat of justice—it’s also a center of culture and diplomacy. We explore Binnenhof, the historic political heart of the Netherlands, and stroll through art galleries featuring works by Vermeer and Mondrian, connecting culture to context, and politics to people.
Finally, our journey leads to Amsterdam, a city where history and innovation coexist in perfect harmony. Known for its progressive spirit, Amsterdam is a living example of inclusive urban planning and civic participation. We visit local legal organizations, learn about the Netherlands' pioneering approaches to human rights and restorative justice, and explore how Dutch legal principles are integrated into daily life.
In between, we dive deep into culture: cruising the city’s UNESCO-listed canals, visiting the Anne Frank House for a powerful reminder of justice denied, and standing before the timeless art at the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum. Amsterdam leaves us inspired—not only by its beauty, but by its enduring commitment to freedom, dialogue, and expression.
This journey through Brussels, The Hague, and Amsterdam is more than a tour—it's a powerful exploration of how law, culture, and identity intersect to shape societies. Each city teaches us something vital: how institutions uphold justice, how culture preserves truth, and how education can spark change.
