Accommodations on study trips come in all different ways, some in the forest, other in mountains, islands, cities, and rural areas etc. Since there are lots of travel components involved, Sometimes the influence of accommodation on a study trip experience is often forgotten. In our journey, we consciously select accommodation types that leave lasting memories to the students. Usually, after a trip, the students remember the roommates, the stories they told each other, the excursions and where they slept becomes a reference point. We explore the interesting options of accommodations to enhance your trip. Some of the places we have experienced include:
Cottages
A lot of us study trips take place in rural Settings or farmlands. Usually, it’s outside the cities or suburbs which helps in exposing students to the countryside and a picture of how our life was before urbanization. On a law study trip to The Hague we explored one of the cottages where the students could take a walk into the vast farmland. Because of the cottages’ layouts, they also help in improving students’ bonding sessions with intimate spaces that accommodate groups of 10 to 20 guests.
Castles
Among the young demographic of students, this is a dream come true with fairytale stories of the secret kingdom, Cinderella, adventures of Sinbad or Snow White etc. Castles inspired accommodation are a great way of enhancing a study experience to the young students as they are able to visually experience the environment depicted in the storybooks stories. Some modernised places with such establishments include the Disneyland in Paris where guest students can experience the life of Mickey Mouse Donald Duck.
Cathedrals
One of the most common public buildings in Europe,Cathedrals represent a rich religious and royal history as well as the evolution of the cities. They are usually located at the heart of the cities and some of the famous cathedrals include the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, Cologne Cathedral, Sagrada Familia Strasbourg Cathedral, Prague Cathedral etc. In some cities, there are cathedral inspired accommodations well designed with cathedral motifs, images and elements that mimic the experience of the majestic structures. Rich with architectural details, getting accommodation in one of the cathedral-inspired rooms with such details influences students appreciation of design in a study trip
Students hostels
One of the best options for transforming a trip experience, these are purpose built hotels for the student demographic. They come complete with architectural designs and services oriented to young people. It’s important to understand the needs of young people as these student’s hotels come equipped with indoor games, colorful designs, and some even host parties, competitions, and festivals for the guests. Because they draw a lot of students from all over the world, they are the best for enhancing international networking and indulging in rich cultural experiences. Some of the famous hostels include the Generator hostels, the students hostels etc.
Mountain Huts
As the name suggests, these are patched on top of mountains, cliffs, and usually serve as resting places during hiking, expeditions and camping. Incorporating the structures as accommodation places helps in transforming students’ experiences during such excursions. Students can plan and pitch camp in such places, forage for food and firewood in the forest, truly living the life of mountaineers. Such huts are common in Central Asia in The Stans and the Caucasus Mountains as shepherds resting places.
Besides taking the hotel, adding such accommodation typologies on a study trip, not only enhances students’ experiences, but also creates timeless moments.
