The 4 type of teachers for great study trips is as result of analyzing the impact of resourceful teacher for a successful academic trip
It is the great Benjamin Franklin who said:
“Tell me and I forget,
teach me and I remember,
involve me and I learn”
The world’s greatest teachers are masters of their crafts. As we celebrate world’s teachers week, we also appreciate the teachers who go behind the scenes to deliver great study trips. Not stopping merely at the destination but focused on the benefits to the students.
In our extensive study trips across the world we meet teachers of all types. These are professionals, lectures, religious leaders, community leaders. Monks,Politicians etc. Teachers come in all typologies and in our context we classify them as follows:
The Founders
These are leading forces in an industry often leading a movement or way of thinking. They influence policies, create businesses and lead to evolution of an industry. While interacting with students, they always push them to identify ideas or concepts while on study trips. Founder teachers are ever curious to venture into the treacherous waters of the startup world offering rewarding experiences to students and are one of the most interesting teachers to have on a study trip.
The Theorists
They influence a philosophy and define the terminologies of an industry. Also theorists help in documenting ideas collected during a study trip into applicable practices for students and school at large. When we visit foreign universities, they are the best teachers to represent a group and lobby for exchange programs and collaborative projects for the schools. Theorists are great in the world of writing, often delivering engaging articles in their areas of study.
The Pioneer (s)
Often they end up becoming head of schools or a department. Pioneer teachers make great leaders of a study trip as they’re mellow with their words and articulate beliefs excellently leading from behind. These are the best teachers to engage when introducing a new concept in an excursion.
Self Taught.
A very rare group but the most exciting one to encounter in a study trip and lucky if they lead your excursion. A recent example is during arts students study trip to Vatican where we encountered Francis, originally an English teacher from Taiwan but now an artist in the streets of Rome and part time tutor at an art school. His mastery of the art world was very impeccable and his words were Poetic. Memories of a self taught teacher leading your trip rarely fade and are very easy with crowds.
These four type of teachers are a boost to the benefits of study trips, ensuring a rewarding experience in the form of educational guidance, ensuring students’ engagement, safety reviews and emotional support that build students’ confidence.
We celebrate the four types of teachers that continue to define the trips to greater heights.
